Fattening themselves up before the cold weather hits, they eat tons of food, building up their energy with stored fat in their bodies. They need a lot, since these winter naps are long and need a stockpile of fatty deposits to last during these cold months.
Majority of the bat species migrate to winter roosts for their very deep sleep over the winter months. A drive to protect these roosts is essential because bats have an important role in the pollination of plants and in the control of many insect species.

Colony collapse disorder (CCD), throughout the history of apiculture this has happened naturally but these days there is a growing concern that our presence has added to the equation of what causes this massive disappearances. Though data is not available on the exact cause of the said condition, it is evident and clear as day that the human footprint has a role in the problem.

The research has found though that viruses and other pathogens contribute greatly as the CCD colonies have been found to have a higher concentrations in their colonies compared to the non-CCD ones. Pesticides, and parasites have also been found to have a higher presence in CCD colonies.
